Refresher Course (Esthetics) Course Information

REFRESHER COURSE (ESTHETICS ONLY) COURSE DESCRIPTION

The curriculum involves 125 hours to satisfy Illinois state requirements. The course includes instruction and practical experience in Final Phase, state board, and the Milady textbook. This course is to assist with helping the student pass the cosmetology state board written and practical exams.

*Graduates will be prepared for an entry level esthetician position.

This course is taught in English. Textbooks and course materials are only offered in the English language.

REFRESHER COURSE (ESTHETICS ONLY) OVERVIEW

Course Hours: 125 clock hours

This course is designed to assist students who are required by the State of Illinois who have failed the state practical and written exam three (3) times, to gain additional hours of education in order to re-take the exam. The course is divided into two (2) designations:

  • Theoretical Classroom Instruction - 65 hours are theory and final phase, including weekly tests.
  • Clinic Classroom Learning Experience - 60 hours are practical application in the clinic classroom.

REFRESHER COURSE (ESTHETICS ONLY) OUTLINE

Your time in the Paul Mitchell The School Tinley Park Refresher Course will be divided into two (2) designations:

  1. Theoretical Classroom Instruction: This portion of instruction includes weekly tests and is a combination of training from the Milady Textbook, Final Phase, and our State Board Preparatory Class.
  2. Clinic Classroom Learning Experience: Your time on the clinic classroom will allow practical application of the information learned in the Milady Textbook and Final Phase classes, to further understanding and comprehension.

The institution offers employment assistance to help graduates’ efforts to secure education-related employment that includes, but is not limited to training in professionalism, resume’ development, job interview preparation and job search skills.

REFRESHER COURSE (ESTHETICS ONLY) TESTING AND GRADING PROCEDURE

The following tests and grading procedures are used to assess student learning and mastery of course content in the 125-hour course:

  1. Students must receive a grade of 75% or higher on weekly theory exams.
  2. Students must receive 100% on each practical worksheet completion.
  3. Students must receive 85% or higher on all final exams.
  4. Monthly Practical Worksheets: One (1).

REFRESHER COURSE (ESTHETICS ONLY) INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES AND METHODS

The courses are provided through a sequential set of learning steps which address specific tasks necessary for State Board preparation, graduation and job entry level skills. Clinic equipment, implements and products are comparable to those used in the industry. Each student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative and productive career oriented activities. The course is presented through well-developed lesson plans that reflect the latest educational methods. Subjects are presented by means of lecture, demonstration, and student participation. Audio-visual aids, guest speakers, field trips, and other related learning methods are used in the course.
